U.S. District Court Judge Joseph H. McKinley Jr. also sentenced Chapman to three years of supervised release following incarceration.

Chapman pleaded guilty to and admitted that he attempted to manufacture methamphetamine on Sept. 23, 2004, in Hart County, and that he carried a semi-automatic rifle and a semi-automatic pistol during and in relation to that drug trafficking crime. The charges arose from the discovery of a meth lab in a car which was involved in an accident Sept. 23, 2004, on Ky. 218 in Hart County. When a state police trooper arrived at the scene, the driver of the vehicle had fled, and witnesses reported that the driver was injured in the accident. Further investigation revealed that the car contained ingredients to manufacture methamphetamine, including ephedrine pills that had been crushed and soaked, a tank containing anhydrous ammonia, lithium battery strips and drain cleaner.

In addition to the necessary ingredients for the manufacture of methamphetamine, the trooper found a Norinco 7.62-caliber semi-automatic rifle and a Bryco Arms .38-caliber semi-automatic handgun in the car. Chapman was later identified as the driver of the car.

McKinley sentenced Carver to five years and 10 months in prison, plus four years of supervised release following incarceration.

Carver pleaded guilty to charges that on three occasions – Nov. 12, Dec. 1 and Dec. 16, 2005 – he sold cocaine and crack cocaine to a confidential informant during &#8220controlled buys.” He also pleaded guilty to a charge that on Dec. 17, 2005, he possessed with intent to distribute both cocaine and marijuana. A search of his residence turned up 125.8 grams of cocaine, six pounds of marijuana, $25,280, a stun gun and digital scales. The seized currency included bills from the earlier controlled buys. The money seized will be forfeited to the United States. The illegal drugs had a street value of about $22,000.
