Rebel flag represents our heritage, history

This is in response to a Jan. 31 letter, “Rebel flag has no place in schools, society.”
The Confederate flag is a part of our heritage and history. The fact is that we fought a war in the 1860s called the American Civil War, where thousands and thousands of young Americans lost their lives. I would say that very few of these men had slaves.
This war took more lives than any other war before or after.
The biggest reason for the war was that the Southern states wanted to separate from the United States and form their own country. This flag was their insignia for their new country. The Confederate flag was never meant to be associated with any group wearing white robes or Nazi symbols.
It is part of my heritage and I respect it, even if it has no country. Associating this flag with racism is a label it doesn’t deserve.
Last but not least, we are all Americans and should be proud of our past, no matter where we have lived.

Biden lost election before it started
The Daily News ran a guest editorial recently “Biden’s candidacy: That didn’t last long.”
In this editorial the message seems clear Biden put his foot in his mouth and has yet to retrieve it. I agree with the views of the editorial.
When Biden said Sen. Barack Obama is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy,” I almost fell out of my chair.
Biden lost the presidential election before the gate even opened. Biden might need to take some cultural diversity classes, or refrain from speaking when other cultures are discussed. He did however apologize and explain that he meant “fresh new ideas” when he referred to Sen. Obama as “clean.”
This doesn’t cut it with me because this is not the first time he made a clearly ill-humored comment. Last summer, speaking of the sudden arrival of Indian Americans in Delaware, Biden said, “You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent.” Well, I can say one thing he’s not going to the White House.
