Today’s snow has already led to a number of automobile accidents throughout Warren County, according to police dispatchers.

Interstate 65 was closed for less than an hour around 8 a.m. this morning at the 19.5 mile marker due to a tractor trailer accident, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

In addition, the cabinet is working to salt and plow roads in its all area counties.

With the cold morning temperatures, residents may be tempted to let their vehicles warm up while they’re inside their homes.

But police have a word of caution: Don’t.

&#8220Unless you have one of those fancy gizmos” that lets you start a car from the house without using a key, just don’t do it, said Officer Barry Pruitt of the Bowling Green Police Department.

Two vehicles were stolen within an hour of each other Thursday morning while their owners were inside their residences, Pruitt said.

Police have already made an arrest in connection with the thefts.

Daniel Eduardo Nunez, 21, 180 Valleybrook Road, was charged with two counts of auto theft at 10:03 a.m. Thursday in the 300 block of Gatewood Ave., according to a city police report.

Both vehicles have been recovered, according to the report.

Nunez is in the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.

Arrest – Javonna Lamont Buford, 30, 304 South Morgan, Glasgow, was charged with possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and giving a peace officer a false name at 10:39 a.m. Thursday at Quality Inn at 1919 Mel Browning St. in Bowling Green, according to a city police report.

Police arrived at the hotel because Buford had outstanding warrants from Barren County for two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, according to a city police arrest citation. When officers searched the room they found a pistol under the comforter.

A small bag of marijuana was also found on the night stand and a small marijuana cigar, according to the report. When being detained, Buford attempted to give officers his brother’s name, the report said.

He is at the Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of $23,000 cash bond.

Arrest – The Hart County Sheriff’s Department arrested two people on fugitive warrants Tuesday.

Jewel E. Mendoza, 31, 2161 Flint Ridge Road, Cave City was charged with eight bench warrants from Hart County, two from Warren County, and one each from Green and Metcalfe counties, according a Hart County Sheriff’s Department report.

David Price, 32, Horse Cave, was transported to the Barren County Jail on charges from that county, according to the report.

The two were located at a residence on Bill Bastin Road in the Uno area of Hart County, according to the report.

Mendoza remains in custody at the Hart County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.

Price is being held at the Barren County Jail in lieu of a $3,500 bond or $5,000 approved surety bond.

Theft – An iPod, valued at $399, was stolen around 8 p.m. Monday from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Candle Court, according to a city police report.

Theft – A white golf bag, clubs and a money clip, together valued at $2,525, were stolen between 5:30 p.m. Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of Coachman, according to a city police report.

Activity report – Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green issued 2,808 citations in January, including 867 citations for speeding, 240 for no seat belt and nine for no child restraint. There were 39 people arrested for driving under in the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Troopers investigated 80 accidents, including three fatalities, during January.

There were 80 criminal cases opened and 546 criminal arrests.

The state police post in Bowling Green handles Warren, Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan and Simpson counties.
