Gracie Tomes Moats, 95, of Richardsville died at 8:55 p.m. Jan. 2, 2007, in Bowling Green.
The Edmonson County native retired from teaching in Butler, Warren and Edmonson counties in 1976 and continued substitute teaching at Richardsville Elementary for 20 more years. She loved children and enjoyed teaching. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in education and a member of Mount Zion Church of Christ for 50 years. She was the daughter of the late Commodore Perry Tomes and Catherine Woosley Tomes and the wife of the late Herman Moats. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest Tomes; and four sisters, Trula Tomes Keown, Setta Tomes Huff, Dessie Tomes Dwyer and Erba Tomes Lee.
The funeral is at 1 p.m. Friday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Mount Zion Church of Christ.
Survivors include five nieces, Wilma Keown Phelps of Roudhill, Reva Keown Stevens of Bowling Green, Lucy Dwyer Massey and her husband, Gerald Ray, and Mary C. Dwyer Byers and her husband, Layman, all of Shepherdsville, and Carolyn Lee Kincaid and her husband, Teddy, of Lindseyville; and several great-nieces and nephews.
