Outreach group taking applications from low-income families in need of home repair

Kentucky Heartland Outreach is accepting applications for need home repairs for low-income families in Warren County.

The program is funded by a grant from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund administered by the Kentucky Housing Corp.

The repairs, to be done in summer 2007, consist primarily of roofing, wheelchair ramps and decks. These repairs will be completed with volunteers at no cost to the homeowner.

Heartland is a student-led ministry of Campbellsville University.

Kiwanis Club hosting EMS awards night

The Bowling Green Kiwanis Club will host the second annual Emergency Services Award ceremony for Bowling Green and Warren County EMS personnel at 7 a.m. Nov. 15.

The event, sponsored by South Central Bank, is designed to honor those in our community who serve in lifesaving and protective capacities.

This year’s winner is Christopher James Buchanon of the Bowling Green Fire Department. Buchanon was nominated by Ronnie Pearson for performance of heroic acts outside of duty. At the time, Buchanon was a member of the Alvaton Volunteer Fire Department, where Pearson is chief.

The awards will be presented at a community breakfast at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge.

Tickets are $10, with a portion of the proceeds to benefit a permanent monument, which is being designed for a prominent location in the community.

Local man named to state bike commission

Gov. Ernie Fletcher appointed a Bowling Green man Friday to the Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission.

Bobby D. Webb of Bowling Green is a certified public accountant with Montgomery and Webb, PSC. Webb is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and married to Brenda Webb.

The Kentucky Bicycle and Bikeway Commission is made up of seven gubernatorial appointees who assist the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in representing the interests of bicyclists and promoting the best interests of the bicycling public.

Weaver holding town hall meeting Monday

Mike Weaver will have a town hall meeting at 6 p.m. Monday at the United Auto Workers Hall at 712 Plum Spring Circle.

Weaver, a candidate in Kentucky’s 2nd Congressional District, will answer voter questions and address their concerns.

He is running against incumbent Republican Ron Lewis.
