Let’s come together to buy Baker’s house
Published 12:00 am Wednesday, October 11, 2006
I notice in our area about 10,000 gamblers spent approximately $1 million so two people could win a house. This million dollars they spent left Warren County forever, considering the people who won weren’t from here.
I am sure the money spent was for a good cause.
Now, if we could get those gamblers to spend the same amount of money to win Mr. Baker’s house, I will buy the first 10 $100 tickets; if my gamble pays off, I will immediately donate the house to Beech Bend. My son said he would do the same, so that is a start.
If this county is willing to gamble so two people can win a house, surely they will gamble so all people in our county can win.
If we can spend $850,000 so our kids can skate or $2 million so the drunks can watch the sunset at Barren River, then surely we can do a little to help every citizen in Warren County.
It is for sure that our powers that be are not going to do anything.

Changing parties is just a part of politics
In an Oct. 3 letter to the editor, Laymon Mills identifies Family Court candidate Joy Denton as a political chameleon for changing her party registration in an attempt to win a appointment to the bench from Gov. Fletcher.
It turns out there is more than one politically calculating chameleon in the race – Catherine Holderfield also changed her party registration from Democrat to Republican in order to appeal to Fletcher. The difference is that in Holderfield’s case, she earned Fletcher’s support and appointment.
Now, both chameleon candidates are seeking the Family Court judgeship.
All of this seems like the typical political way to try and fool the voting public. Don’t we deserve better?

We should vote for the best candidate
I would like to respond to Laymon Mills’ letter in the Oct. 3 paper, “Media, citizens should really look at candidates.”
This Family Court race should be centered around who is the best candidate for this position and who will look out for the best interests of the children and families of our community.
This is what Mrs. Denton has based her campaign on.
It should not matter if a candidate is a Democrat or a Republican.
If you are basing your vote on a candidate’s party affiliation, then you should not be voting anyway.
You should base your vote on who is the right person for this job, and I know this person is Joy Denton.
