Delafield reunion is at community center
Delafield Community Center has its annual reunion on Oct. 7.

Warren students to vote on school lunch
Warren County school students vote Tuesday on their favorite school lunch, as part of National School Lunch Week.
Each elementary student purchasing a lunch will receive daily givaways and one middle and high school student will win an iPod for participating.

Brittany Vincent is Warren Junior Miss
The 2007 Warren County Junior Miss Program was held Saturday night at Van Meter Auditorium on WKU’s campus.
Brittany Vincent, the daughter of Greg and Lynn Vincent and a senior at Warren East High School, was selected from the 18 participants as the Warren County Junior Miss for 2007. She also won a self-expression, fitness and talent award. She will compete in the 2007 Kentucky Junior Miss Program in January in Lexington. If named Kentucky’s Junior Miss, she will go to Mobile, Ala., to take part in the 50th annual America’s Junior Miss National Finals in June.
Kristin Studle, daughter of Ron and Susie Studle and a senior at Warren East High School, was first runner-up and won a self-expression and talent award and the poster contest. Kathleen Bond, daughter of Mel and Kimala Bond and a senior at Gateway Christian Schools, was second runner-up. Hilary Hill, daughter of Noel and Melinda Hill and a senior at Bowling Green High School, was the Scholastic Award Winner. Joye Beth Spinks, daughter of Mark and Tammy Spinks and a senior at Warren East High School, was the Scholastic runner-up.
State honors driver, superintendent
Warren County Public Schools Superintendent Dale Brown received the Superintendent of the Year Award last week from the Kentucky Association for Pupil Transportation at a banquet in Lexington.
Brown was honored for his commitment to quality and safety in pupil transportation. Warren County bus driver Charles Carver was also honored at the banquet, receiving the Special Needs Bus Driver of the Year Award.
Greenwood students named semifinalists
Greenwood High School seniors Chris Ryan and Tressa Tullis were named National Merit Semifinalists in the 52nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
They now have the opportunity to compete for some of the 8,200 Merit Scholarship awards worth $33 million to be offered next spring.
To compete in the program, 1.4 million high school juniors entered the National Merit Program by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test as an initial screen of program entrants.
WKU parent, family weekend planned
Parent and Family Weekend, an annual salute to current WKU students and their families, is Friday through Sunday. The first of three Focus on Western campus preview days is set for Saturday.
Friday: Registration, 5:30-8:30 p.m., Downing University Center third floor; WKU women’s soccer game, 6 p.m., WKU Soccer Complex; Just Us concert, 6 p.m., Downing University Center patio.
Saturday: Registration, noon-6:30 p.m., Downing University Center third floor; mock classroom/student presentation, 12:40-1:25 p.m., Downing University Center Theater; residence hall receptions, 1:30-2:30 p.m.; President’s Festival on the Green, 3:30 p.m., Preston Center lawn; WKU vs. Western Illinois football, 6 p.m., Smith Stadium.
Sunday: Brunch, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Downing University Center’s Fresh Food Company, featuring a performance by Amazing Tones of Joy at 10:30 a.m.; WKU women’s soccer game, 1 p.m., WKU Soccer Complex.

Leadership group picks seniors for class
Seniors from Bowling Green High School and Warren County High Schools are participating in the 2006 Students Turning Education Into Potential Program.
The S.T.E.P. program develops fundamental leadership skills in high school seniors and exposes students to numerous civic, educational and vocational opportunities in the community.
Participants attended a half-day retreat on Saturday and will attend the following day programs: Media and the Arts, Education, Agri-business and Economics, Health and Human Services, and Local Government and Justice.
Participants are selected based on academics, community and school involvement and include:
Bowling Green High School: Kylie Hippler, Beth Parrent, Katie Reynolds, Richard Taing, Alyssa Turner, Jeremy Webb and Bethany Williams;
Greenwood High School: Natalie Evans, Josh Stinson, Joe Tichenor, Ty Tipton and Justin Vanderglas;
Warren Central High School: Blake Cardwell, Allison Fuqua, Ashley Hoyt, Megan McKee, Madeline Oldham, Wes Orange, Casey Price, Alicia Reece, Sabina Smailhodzic, Marcus Steele, Laura Suttle, Benadin Varajic, Alice Weber, Katie White and Kevin Yates.
Warren East High School: Julie Crabtree, Andrea Moore and Mattie Parsley.
At the program’s graduation ceremony, the Leadship Bowling Green Alumni Association will award a $1,000 scholarship to a participant who will attend Western Kentucky University.

Transpark names scholarship winners
The Kentucky Trimodal Transpark named five recipients in the County Courthouse Scholarship Awards in honor of Judge-Executive Michael Buchanon.
The scholarships are the result of the 2005 County Courthouse Award presented to Buchanon by the National Association of Counties and Siemens Building Technologies.
Bryan Harley of Bowling Green, Ezra Roper of Rockfield, Sean Hamlet of Bowling Green, Daniel Childress of Sweeden and Shawn Pardue of Brownsville each received $1,000 scholarships to Western Kentucky University.
Western Kentucky University chose recipients from the transpark partner counties of Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe and Warren. Eligibility for a scholarship required the recipient to have a declared major in the WKU Ogden College of Science and Engineering, show involvement in the community and meet GPA and ACT guidelines.
Old Union School having fall festival
Old Union School, a private pre-K-12th grade educational facility in southern Warren County has a Renaissance-themed fall festival on Oct. 6 titled “A Knight to Remember.”
Supper includes “White Knight” Beans and Cornbread, GIANT turkey legs and “Twisted Jester” Cinnamon Pretzels. There will be lots of themed games including Cleaning the King’s Stable (a pudding-throwing booth), Castle Cake Walk, Damsel’s Duck Pond, Dungeon, and a giant jumping castle.
Everyone is encouraged to dress in Renaissance-era attire.
The festival is from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the school, 529 Old Union Church Road. For more information call Leslie Witty at 781-4890.
KDE and Ashland name top educators
A Warren County teacher is among 24 outstanding teachers selected by the Kentucky Department of Education and Ashland oil company.
Cumberland Trace Elementary school teacher Cathy Willoughby and others from across the state will compete for the 2007 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced next month. All 24 teachers will be honored at a ceremony in Frankfort on Oct. 13 in the State Capitol.
Ashland will present the 24 TAA recipients a cash award and framed certificate at the awards ceremony in Frankfort.
Ashland has recognized outstanding Kentucky teachers with its Teacher Achievement Awards since 1988.
Warren Co. students make all-state chorus
Twenty-six students from Warren County middle and high schools earned spots on the Kentucky Choral Directors Association All-State Chorus that will perform Nov. 3-4 at the KCDA meeting in Lexington.
Warren County students named to the all-state chorus are:
From Drakes Creek Middle School: Kathleen Angerbauer, Caitlin Belcher, Morgan Kern, Devon Murphy, B.J. Sweatt, Alexa Whitney, Grace Wilson and Sarah Wood.
From Greenwood High School: Emily Dennis, Chelsey Halter, Austin Mullis, Chase Smith, Allie Steen, Bennett Stofer and Kevin Tian.
From Moss Middle School: Lia Davis, Sarah Hunton, Melinda McGraw Moss and Katie Thomison.
From Warren East High School: Trevor Ayers, Bianca Byrd and Hillary Jenkins.
From Warren East Middle School: Leah Eadens, Makayla Cardwell, Rachel Daniell and Mikala Montgomery.
Sixteen students from elementary schools in the Warren County school district earned spots on the KCDA.
