Harry V. Reid Jr., 82, of Bowling Green died at 4:35 p.m. Aug. 24, 2006, at The Medical Center.

The Quincy, Mass., native graduated from the Quincy Schools. After high school, he studied marine engineering at the Fore River Shipyard of Bethlehem Steel. He was called to serve in the Navy in 1944 and again in 1950. He was employed by the New England Telephone Company until 1959, when he transferred to Mountain Bell in Denver. After a 35-year career with the Bell system, he retired in 1984 and moved to South Florida. He was a member of Rural Masonic Lodge in Quincy, the Consistory in Lake Worth, Fla., and the Mahi Shrine Temple in Miami. He served as president of the Gold Coast Shrine Club in Deerfield Beach, Fla., and belonged to many other Masonic organizations in Florida and Massachusetts. He was a son of the late Harry V. Reid Sr. and Martha Anderson Reid. He was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Reid.

Funeral is at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church, where he was a member, with burial in Wollaston Cemetery in Quincy. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, and Deware Funeral Home in Quincy are in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Cotone Reid; a son, Ronald Reid and his wife, Sherry, of Bowling Green; a daughter, Lois Geisler and her husband, Jay, of Salt Lake City; two sisters, Eleanor Lunetta and her husband, Warren, of Weymouth, Mass., and Merilyn Eaton and her husband, Sandy, of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Carl Reid, Kerri Brodersen, Christopher Reid, Kendra Reid, Richard Harmon, Gayle Burris, Cheryl Martinez and David Harmon; and 11 great-grandchildren.
