Former Logan County funeral director Tim Hanna pleaded guilty this week in Logan Circuit Court to 117 counts of Class C and Class D felonies.
The charges of theft, forgery and violation of prepaid funeral laws are related to Hanna’s taking money that was given to the former Memorial Funeral Home operator for prepaid funerals.
The funds were to have been sent to a trust fund until needed for funeral expenses but the money was never forwarded.
Hanna received a recommended sentence of 500 years, with 30 years to serve. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 1.
Hanna will be required to pay back about $350,000.
He could see his sentence compounded, having also been indicted recently on charges related to the theft of about $50,000 from Habitat for Humanity. Chesnut said he’s already paid back about half of that.
Hanna, who was first charged in October, remains out of jail on bond.
