The prosecution recommended a seven-year sentence Monday for Tramon R. Weatherford in Warren County Circuit Court in connection to a 2004 motorcycle wreck that caused the death of Kelly J. Smith.

Weatherford, 33, 213 Ragland Way, entered an Alford plea to manslaughter and reiterated in court that he didn’t remember any details of the crash, said Chris Cohron, commonwealth’s attorney for Warren County.

Weatherford also received a five-year sentence on an unrelated drug trafficking charge.

Since the accident in June 2004, Weatherford has maintained that he has no memory of the wreck. An Alford plea means Weatherford, while not admitting guilt, believes a reasonable jury would find him guilty.

&#8220A certified accident reconstructionist from the Bowling Green Police Department would have shown Weatherford was the operator,” Cohron said.

The manslaughter charge stems from statements by witnesses that Weatherford was drinking just before getting on the motorcycle.

In prior court hearings, it was revealed Weatherford’s blood alcohol content was .14, and Smith had a level of .12. The legal limit to drive in Kentucky is a .08 blood alcohol content.

Weatherford lost control of the motorcycle on Double Springs Road after it hit a high curb, according to reports.

The accident sent both Smith and Weatherford to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where Smith died. Part of Weatherford’s skull was removed until brain swelling subsided.

Weatherford pleaded guilty to the trafficking charge earlier this year, Cohron said.

&#8220Weatherford sold crack cocaine to a confidential informant,” Cohron said.

Final sentencing is set for July 10.
