400-mile yard sale starts today

It’s a shopper’s dream come true this weekend when the third 400-Mile Sale stretches its way from Paducah to Maysville.

Activities are in 60 communities along U.S. 68-Ky. 80, including special events, yard sales and discounts at antique shops, said Debby Spencer, director of tourism and economic develop with WMTH Corp., which helps with the sale.

&#8220We have people coming from Canada, Seattle and New York. People have contacted us who are trying to set up yard sales, trying to get lodging or trying to find out what’s happening in each community,” she said. &#8220We find out what people like about it and what could be done better.”

Thousands of people from across the country attend the sale each year, Spencer said.

&#8220The first year we estimate 3,000 people coming through. We have thousands and thousands, and that’s just people we’ve talked to,” she said. &#8220We have 40 states documented last year. There was someone from every county in Kentucky who we got a name and address from last year.”

Auburn

  • 400-Mile Yard Sale to Benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children is at Sugar Maple Plaza, where Subway and Dollar General are, in Auburn. All proceeds benefit Shriners Hospitals for Children in Lexington. Checks made payable to the hospital are tax-deductible.

Bowling Green

Glasgow

  • Caution light at Bon Ayr, seven miles west of Glasgow on U.S. 68.
  • Four-family yard sale – three houses past Bon Ayr Store on U.S. 68. Items include name-brand items, new baskets, clothes, seashell bath decor, birdhouses, shoes, CDs, PlayStation games, a George Foreman grill with a bun warmer, rugs and home decor. Everything is in like new condition.
  • 301 Old Edmonton Road Loop near Glasgow High School. Signs will be posted.
