Teen killed in accident Tuesday

An accident Tuesday morning at U.S. 231 and Britni Lane in Allen County killed Jamie Rich, 19, of Scottsville.

Rich was traveling west on Britni Lane in a Dodge Avenger at 7:34 a.m. when she approached the intersection at U.S. 231, according to Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green.

She attempted to pull through the intersection but did not see a Toyota Land Rover driven by Kenneth Dykes Jr. of Scottsville, which was approaching south on U.S. 231, according to the report.

After colliding, both vehicles came to rest in the median.

Rich was pronounced dead at the scene by the Allen County Coroner’s Office. Dykes refused treatment from emergency medical services, according to the report. Both were wearing seat belts.

Accident – Stacy Jeffrey was charged with aggravated driving under the influence after a Dodge truck she was driving struck a guardrail and overturned Tuesday in Simpson County, injuring five people.

Jeffrey, 35, of Starke, Fla., was driving north at 7:30 p.m. on Interstate 65 when she lost control of the vehicle, which was pulling a travel trailer, according to state police. The vehicle struck a guardrail, causing the vehicle and trailer to overturn.

Molly Stanley, 28, of East Madison, Tenn., Howard Stanley, 25, of Tampa, Fla., and Dean Boswell, 39, of Shepherdsville were riding in the travel trailer, according to the report. Leonard Stanley, 53, of Erlington Heights, Ill., was inside the truck with Jeffrey.

Howard Stanley was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville by helicopter for treatment but no patient condition is available. The four others were taken to The Medical Center in Bowling Green.

Molly Stanley is in stable condition at The Medical Center. Leonard Stanley was released.

No patient information is available on Jeffrey.

Boswell was found to be a fugitive from Ohio and arrested after being released from the hospital, according to the police report. Boswell is at the Warren County Regional Jail without bond.

The accident blocked the northbound lanes of I-65 for about three and half hours, according to the report. No one was wearing a seat belt.

Accident – Kenneth Meredith, 65, of Horse Cave was admitted to T.J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow for injuries suffered in a traffic accident at 7:44 a.m. Tuesday in Hart County, according to state police.

Melissa Hulett, 32, of Horse Cave was traveling north on U.S. 31-E when a Jeep Cherokee driven by Meredith failed to yield the right of way and the two vehicles collided, according to the state police.

Hulett was treated at Caverna Memorial Hospital in Horse Cave and released, according to the report. Both were wearing seat belts.

Accident – A Brownsville woman was injured at 3 p.m. Monday in a traffic accident on Nashville Road between Yale Avenue and Campbell Lane.

The accident occurred when Joshua D. Mellencamp, 19, of Bowling Green struck the rear of the vehicle driven by Amy J. Cundiff, 22, of Brownsville, according to the Bowling Green Police Department.

The collision drove Cundiff’s vehicle into the rear of the vehicle driven by Julie E. Britnell, 22, of Harvest, Ala.

Patricia Cundiff, 51, a passenger in the vehicle operated by Amy Cundiff, was treated at The Medical Center and released.

Arrest – Fernando Valdez Cortes, 26, 1132 Fairview Ave., was charged today with impersonating a peace officer.

Cortes was in front of Brewing Co. at 423 Park Row with a small, concealed weapon, according to a city police report.

Witnesses said Cortes was flashing a fake badge and saying he was a DEA agent, according to the report. The weapon was not in working order, the report noted.

He is in the Warren County Regional Jail without bond.

Arrest – Russell Wayne Baker, 34, of Miamisburg, Ohio, was charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon Tuesday at 3098 Louisville Road, according to a city police report.

Police received a call about an intoxicated subject in the parking lot at Hardy & Son Funeral Home. Baker was found walking across the road from the funeral home and an officer found a six-inch folding knife in his back pocket, according to the report.

He is in Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of $2,015 cash bond.
