Man indicted on drug charges

A Tompkinsville man was indicted by a Barren County grand jury on several charges after being accused of trying to bring marijuana into the Barren County Corrections Center.
Joseph L. Tooley, 25, was indicted on charges of first-degree promoting contraband, third-degree assault, tampering with physical evidence, possession of marijuana and first-degree persistent felony offender.

Tooley, who was arrested Feb. 21, was being searched after being brought to the jail when a deputy noticed a plastic bag containing an unidentified substance was inserted partially in his rectum, according to a report from the commonwealth’s attorney’s office in Barren County.
Tooley immediately grabbed the bag and swallowed it. He was then transported to the hospital, where the bag and substance were retrieved, according to the report. The substance in the bag was found to be marijuana.
Deputy Jerry Scott was injured during the incident while trying to prevent Tooley from swallowing the plastic bag.
Burglary – Cash and other items were stolen between March 27 and April 4 from Specialty Concrete at 144 Dishman Lane.
Police were provided with surveillance tape of a suspect inside the business, according to a Bowling Green Police Department report.
Stolen items included $674, a key to a vending machine, a grinder, bolt cutters and a screw gun. Total losses are estimated at $994.

Indictment – William Calvin Edmonds, 65, of Glasgow was indicted by a Barren County grand jury on a charge of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance.
Detective Jimmy Pedigo and officers from the Glasgow Police Department conducted a drug buy from Edmonds at 414 N. Race St. on Feb. 2, according to a report from the commonwealth’s attorney in Barren County.
Edmonds sold cocaine to a confidential informant working with the police department, according to the report.
Theft – A compact disc player and various CDs were stolen from a vehicle between 11:15 p.m. Wednesday and 11:45 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Bright Street, according to a Bowling Green police report.
The items are valued at $550.
