Man sentenced on involuntary manslaughter charges

A Cincinnati man was sentenced Thursday in U.S. District Court in Bowling Green to one year and eight months in federal prison for his part in the traffic accident deaths of two individuals.

Michael R. Kathman, 24 was sentenced on two counts of involuntary manslaughter for a Aug. 13, 2004, incident that caused the deaths of Gregory Ackley and Jeffrey Beck, near Houchins Ferry at Mammoth Cave National Park.

U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell also sentenced Kathman to three years supervised release following incarceration, 250 hours of community service with regard to alcohol awareness, ordered him to pay a $200 special penalty assessment, and restitution in the amount of $9,432.86.

Although Kathman said he suffers from amnesia and doesn’t recall the wreck, he told the court he believed the U.S. could prove he was driving the car, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Kathman also agreed he was legally drunk at the time. Kathman entered his plea Jan. 9.

Arrest – James Santillis Franklin, 26, of Horse Cave was charged Thursday with operating on a suspended license and outstanding charges from Kentucky State Police of trafficking in a controlled substance and being a first-degree persistent felony offender.

A Bowling Green Police Department officer pulled over the vehicle on Stonehenge Avenue because it was recognized as being owned by a &#8220wanted subject,” according to city police.

Franklin is in Warren County Regional Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bond.

Arrest – Kim Anthony Bellcourt, 30, 212 Cherry St., was charged with four counts of third-degree burglary Thursday.

A city police citation said Bellcourt told police he took money on four occasions from Concrete Specialties. He is accused of taking $925 in four incidents.

Bellcourt is in Warren County Regional Jail on a $2,500 cash bond.

Criminal mischief – The back plastic window of a Mazda Miata was torn between midnight and 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Creakwood Avenue, according to city police. Damage is estimated at $300.

Criminal mischief – A vehicle in the 1100 block of Kenton Street sustained $500 in damage after being keyed at 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

The 42-year-old female owner of the vehicle said a woman, whom she knew, came to her house demanding the resident come outside. She refused and her vehicle was scratched with a key, according to a city police report. The woman who was accused of the incident told police she was at home at that time.

Monthly report – Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green issued 2,477 citations in March, including 976 for speeding, 224 for not wearing seat belts and 13 for having no child restraint.

Troopers arrested 61 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Detectives and troopers investigated 1,303 complaints, opened 108 criminal cases and made 353 criminal arrests. Troopers additionally worked 906 special details and programs in March.

Theft – A 2002 silver Mustang, valued at $20,000, was stolen between midnight and 2 a.m. Thursday from the parking lot at Big Daddy’s Bar and Grill, 306 Old Morgantown Road, according to city police.

Theft – A $2,000 computer and $300 gun were stolen from an apartment in the 1100 block of High Street between 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to a city police report.

An air conditioner from one of the windows was removed to gain access to the apartment, according to the report.
