Western Kentucky senior guard Anthony Winchester begins participating in the 54th annual Portsmouth (Va.) Invitational Tournament today, the first amateur event prior to June’s National Basketball Association Draft.
Eight teams will compete in the tournament, which will run until Saturday at Churchland High School.
Winchester will play for Beach Barton Ford in the event.
Other guards on the team include Jose Juan Barea of Northeastern and Rhode Island’s Dawan Robinson. Brandon Bowman of Georgetown, Travis Garrison of Maryland and Cincinnati’s James White are the squad’s forwards, while Hartford’s Kenny Adeleke and Justin Williams of Wyoming will man the post.
Winchester concluded his Hilltopper career last month as the school’s all-time leader with 247 3-pointers and finished seventh with 1,732 career points.
As a senior, Winchester was an honorable mention All-America selection and the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year after averaging 18.6 points and 5.6 rebounds a game as he helped lead WKU to a 23-8 finish, which included a league-best 12-2 mark during regular season.
