Paul C. Deemer Jr., 85, of Bowling Green died at 1:20 a.m. Feb., 19, 2006, at his home.
The Akron, Ohio, native was a retired businessman and longtime owner of Deemer Floral Co. He grew up in Bowling Green, where he graduated from Bowling Green High School. He attended the University of Illinois, the University of the South at Sewanee (Tennessee) and Vanderbilt University in Nashville. He served in the United States Air Corps as a staff sergeant and was a decoder in intelligence during World War II. He was married to Martha Haley Cooksey until her death and the two were active members of Christ Episcopal Church, where he served on the vestry and was a senior warden. After his wife’s death in 1990, he later married Martha Sue “Possum” Richardson, now deceased. He was active in numerous civic and business organizations, including the Jaycees, Rotary Club, board of the former City-County Hospital, board of First Federal Savings and Loan, Kentucky State Florist Association and others. He was a son of the late Paul. C. “Pete” Deemer Sr. and Bess Harrison Deemer.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Episcopal Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Deemer Buchanon, and her husband, Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon, of Bowling Green; two sons, Paul C. Deemer III and his wife, Laurie, of Beijing and Roy C. Deemer and his wife, Brenda, of Louisville; a stepdaughter, Sheila Marcumand and her husband, Steve, of Bowling Green; two stepsons, David Coombs and his wife, Melody, and Steve Coombs and his wife, Kim, all of Spokane, Wash.; a brother-in-law, Roy G. Cooksey of Bowling Green; eight grandchildren, Pete Deemer of San Francisco, Andy Deemer of Brooklyn, N.Y., Aaron Deemer of Beijing, Michael Buchanon and Renee Deemer, both of Bowling Green, Roy Buchanon of Arcata, Calif., and Harrison and John Deemer, both of Louisville; six stepgrandchildren, Staci Galentine of Nashville and Cody, Heather, Kayln, Lauryn and Rob Coombs, all of Spokane; five great-grandchildren, Zoe Buchanon of Arcata, Felix and Eleanora Deemer of San Francisco and Miles and Max Buchanon of Bowling Green; and a stepgreat-grandchild, Grayson Galentine of Nashville.
