Western Kentucky sophomore placekicker Chris James has been selected to I-AA.org’s All-Star team.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Fayetteville, Ga., native was also named third-team all-region by Hansen’s Football Gazette and was a first team all-Gateway Football Conference selection following the 2005 campaign.
James was 15-of-17 on field-goal attempts and made all 42 extra-point conversions last year, leading the league in both field goals and points per game – in fact, he finished 11th nationally in the former category and was 22nd in the latter.
He made 10 straight field goals from Oct. 1 to Nov. 5, tying the school record, while also ending the year tied for fourth on WKU’s season record list in both field goals and points by a kicker (87).
James was honored twice during the season as national and conference Special Teams Player of the Week after converting game-winning field goals in the Hilltoppers’ victories over Eastern Kentucky and Illinois State.
