News Briefs: Martin appointed to post

State Auditor Crit Luallen recently appointed former Butler County Judge-Executive David Martin to the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.

Martin served four terms as judge-executive, retiring in 1999 when he became the executive director of the Kentucky County Judge-Executives Association.

Martin is a member of the Barren River Area Development District Board of Directors and Butler County Water System Board. He is employed as a community relations specialist for the Leslie, Knott, Letcher, Perry County Community Action Council. His wife, Javene, and he have two children and two grandchildren.

The Kentucky Registry of Election Finance is an independent seven-member board appointed to serve as the regulatory body for the administration, regulation and enforcement of Kentucky’s campaign finance laws. The agency receives, compiles and maintains financial disclosure reports of elected officials and candidates for specified offices. The agency hears complaints and issues rulings regarding the finance laws enacted by the General Assembly.

The seven members are appointed by the governor, attorney general, secretary of state and auditor of public accounts. Terms are for four years.

Adairville to honor military

Adairville-South Logan Chamber Of Commerce will have an &#8220I’ll Be Home For Christmas” ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday to honor the military.

Special guests will be service men and women who are home from Iraq and a representative from the office of U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, R-Hopkinsville.

A brief observance will be held on the town square and as a tribute, seven American flags that have flown over the United States Capitol will be presented to the service men and women who have returned.

All families, friends and the general public are invited.

Survey group cancels find

&#8220Seeing Below the Surface: Using Ground Penetrating Radar to Find Lost Graves,” a program by Phil Mink of the Kentucky Archaeological Survey Group scheduled for 5:30 p.m. tonight at Smiths Grove City Hall is canceled because of the rain.
