EL PASO, Texas – Dr. Roy Gentry, 58, of El Paso died Nov. 5, 2005.
He was a Bowling Green, Ky., native. Roy was an amazing man. He was married to his wife, Nancy, for almost 40 years, prior to her death just two months ago. They enjoyed a wonderful life together that was cut short by the hands of time. Roy and Nancy brought two sons into this world, Thomas and Lee. These two young men could not have asked for better parents. Roy was the oracle while Nancy provided a stable and nurturing environment in which Thomas and Lee would thrive. Roy was a true citizen of the world. Roy and Nancy traveled the globe and visited 47 countries where they embraced the splendor and diversity of faraway lands. They had a grand time.
Roy had many qualities that made him unique. He was a straight shooter and a giving person. Roy didn’t care what a person’s title or background was; he looked at the person’s spirit. Roy was a great communicator because he first sought to understand the views of others. Roy’s allegiance to his friends and family was always true. He would try to find solutions to challenges and make things right for his team.
Before joining the El Paso Electric Co. in January 1986, Roy was a professor and debate coach at University of Texas at El Paso and acted as a consultant to the CEO of the El Paso Electric Co. Roy thoroughly revered his association with his colleagues at work. He developed lifelong friendships with many special people. Roy lived life to the fullest extent and gained the nickname “Dr. Excess.” His enduring love to those around him will be missed. But, most of all, his rich sense of humor, his healthy sense of perspective and his warm embrace and acceptance of people from all walks of life will be remembered forever. Roy was taken from us far too soon. Roy’s impact on those close to him will ripple through time and touch many generations.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home West. Visitation is from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Gentry and his family, Tanya, and their two daughters, Amanda and Christina, and Lee Gentry; and a brother, Jerry Gentry.
