Butler County man charged in mother’s shooting death

A Butler County man is in the county jail today, charged in the death of his mother.
Kentucky State Police said 23-year-old Jonathan Cardwell is charged with murder after the Tuesday night shooting of Michelle Baker, 39, on Woodbury Loop.

Police said a woman was found with a gunshot wound and was taken to The Medical Center at Bowling Green, where she died. Officers found a weapon at the home and arrested Cardwell.
Baker’s body was sent to Louisville today for an autopsy, according to Justin Kirby, a deputy Warren County coroner.
Cardwell is lodged in the Butler County Jail, awaiting a bond hearing.
Arrest – A Bowling Green man was arrested Tuesday night after police were called to a stabbing incident at his home, 213 E. 13th Ave., according to a Bowling Green Police Department report.
When police arrived at the home of James Leroy Raymer, 29, at 6:23 p.m., the stabbing victim, who had one wound on his chest and two more on his left leg, said Raymer had assaulted him after an argument, then fled. Raymer allegedly threw a fan at another person at the home, who left the scene before officers arrived, but later showed police a two-inch wound on her leg.
Officers canvassing the neighborhood found Raymer in the 1200 block of Fair Street hiding behind a parked car. Raymer denied the stabbing, but a search of the car and the area turned up a kitchen knife and a pocketknife allegedly used in the assault, according to a report.

Raymer was charged with first-degree assault for the stabbing and fourth-degree assault for throwing the fan, according to the report. He was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail, where he remains in lieu of a $25,000 cash bond.
Burglary – Between 10:15 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. Monday, someone entered a home in the 1200 block of Stubbins Street and stole $9,550 in jewelry and cash, according to a city police report. Items reported missing include $750, a gold men’s ring with a blue diamond, two gold women’s rings with diamonds, a woman’s gold watch and a men’s wedding band.
Burglary – A BGPD officer patrolling Sugar Maple Square between 9:15 p.m. Tuesday and 12:15 a.m. today noticed the north side entry doors of Houchens were smashed, according to a city police report. Surveillance video shows a white man wearing a checkered jacket coming from the back of the store and bending down in front of a cigarette rack. The doors appeared to be broken from the inside out, according to the report. Damage is estimated at $450; nothing is reported missing.
Crime Stoppers – Crime Stoppers needs help. Bowling Green police are investigating a burglary and theft from a local elementary school. Sometime during the weekend of Oct. 14, burglars forced their way into Dishman-McGinnis Elementary School on Old Morgantown Road. The thieves took a Sony digital camera, a Brother digital copier, two Dell computers and a monitor and an Epson printer, valued together at over $2,700.

Criminal mischief – Between 9:45 p.m. Monday and 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, someone broke the passenger side window of a delivery truck while it was parked at the Greenwood Mall, 2625 Scottsville Road, according to a city police report. Damage is estimated at $392.
