CLARKSON – Arville Loy Dunn, 97, of Clarkson died Nov. 1, 2005, at his home.
The Grayson County native was the oldest of seven children and his early years were spent in the Horntown community in Grayson County, where he attended elementary school at Horntown and high school at Millerstown. In 1929, he attended Western Kentucky State Normal School and earned a provisional teaching certificate. He was a farmer, a businessman and a member of Little Flock Baptist Church and Clarkson Wilhelm Masonic Lodge. In 1945, he was elected Grayson County Circuit Court clerk and served in that capacity for 12 years. He was elected to a four-year term as Grayson County judge in 1957. From 1962-65, he worked as deputy sheriff for Grayson County. In 1968, he was employed in the Kentucky Highway Department and remained there until his retirement in 1973. He served the city of Clarkson as chairman of the board and mayor for 25 years beginning in 1973. He was a son of the late James Perry Dunn and Tommie Ellen Layman Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Eula Johnson Dunn; a brother, Shelby; and two sisters, Ruby Carby and Oris Higdon.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rogers-Oller Funeral Home, with burial in Fairview Cemetery in Leitchfield. Visitation is from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Masonic service is at 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Crain and her husband, Charles Crain Jr., of Leitchfield; two sons, Philip and his wife, Doris, of Upton and David and his wife, Joy Beth, of Bowling Green; two sisters, Winnie Hawkins of Upton and Corine Johnson and her husband, Lamar, of Murray; a brother, Charles Dunn and his wife, Pauline, of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and five great-stepgrandchildren.
