James R. Adams

POUND, Va. – James R. ”Jim“ Adams, 80, of Kingsport, Tenn., died Oct. 12, 2005, at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
The Pound native was a member of the 1941-42 Pound state champion basketball team, a graduate of Emory and Henry College in Emory, Va., a Navy veteran, having served aboard the USS Guam during World War II and was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church in Bowling Green, Ky. He was a mason and retired from General Electric, where he was a mechanical engineer. He was a son of the late Aubrey Adams and Ethel Hubbard Adams. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruble Kincaid and Violet Meade.
Memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at Baker Funeral Home, with a reception to follow. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife, Flaudine Shortt Adams; two sons, Dr. John Adams and his wife, Mary Hanna, of Columbia, S.C., and Dr. Jeffrey Adams and his wife, Dr. Tammy Willis, of Bowling Green; two sisters, Lilly Green of Orlando, Fla., and Martha Beverly of Wise, Va.; a brother, Dillard Adams of Brevard, N.C.; two grandsons, Benjamin and Nathan Adams; two granddaughters, Sarah Adams Harris and Emily Adams Kuhn; two great-grandsons, John Samuel and Henry Hampton Adams; and several nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.
