2001 – JOHN MATHENEY

John Matheney had five daughters who kept him involved through the years coaching Little League football and refereeing tee-ball, baseball, softball, high school football and volunteering as swim team coach and PTA president. But he was an active member of the community in many other ways.

John helped organize Landmark Association, was on the Beautification Committee, a volunteer for Friends of Lost River, past president of the Kentucky Planning Association, and a member of the Gideons for 20 years. He served as executive director of HANDS Inc., a non-profit housing corporation for low-income people, while they were getting started.

And, as if this didn’t keep John busy enough, the former Eagle Scout and Marine has managed to find time for seven mission trips to Brazil, four to Honduras and one each to Haiti and Russia.

As one of John’s daughters said of him, “He is a great man and a great father. The family is blessed.” Indeed so is the community!
