“Dracula,” sponsored by Dart Container Corp., will run at 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays and at 2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays through Oct. 9. The audio description date for the visually impaired, sponsored by Downing-McPeak Vision Center, will be Sept. 25.

KRT Artistic Director Robert Brock, who plays the role of Dracula, said the group is excited about bringing back “Dracula,” which ran at the theater three years ago.

“It was the biggest selling show in the history of the theater,” he said.

“This is a good script. We have a different cast and set. It’s going to be as scary as we can make it.”

Rose’s adaptation of Dracula is set in South Carolina and nearly all the characters are American, Brock said. The story begins at Dr. John Seward’s hospital, where a woman is losing blood and dying, but no one knows why. The woman is visited by a new neighbor – Dracula – and eventually dies. When Dracula targets another woman for his bloodlust, Seward calls in his friend, professor Eva Van Helsing. In Stoker’s version, Van Helsing is male.

“She feels the need to prove herself because she is female. I think that’s her strength because she’s used to fighting the odds,” said Donna Freeburn, who plays Van Helsing. “She has been studying vampires and the black arts for years, so she knows all about them. Although she has studied them, this may be the first time that she has actually come up against it.”

Additional cast members include Fred Willecke, Windy Woodhead, Mike Saffer, Amy Kiser, Amanda Rae Jones, Dalen Hobbs and Matt Kovar.
