NEWBERG, Ore. – Chester Lee Perkins, 76, died Sept. 2, 2005.

The Smiths Grove, Ky., native grew up and attended school in Smiths Grove and spent most of his life there. He had four children by his first wife, Jean Bradley Perkins, who preceded him in death in 1964. He worked at Gerber Legendary Blades for 15 years before he retired and was a member of Newberg Church of the Nazarene. He loved gardening, camping, fishing and spending time outdoors and will be remembered for his contagious laugh and glowing smile. Chester was kind and generous and always willing to help others in need. He was a son of the late Charles A. Perkins and Lisa Page Perkins. He was preceded in death by a brother, David; and a sister, Reba.

Funeral was at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Attrell’s Funeral Chapel, with private committal in Valley View Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife, the former Ila Marie Willis of Salem; his children, Roger Perkins, Mike Perkins, Brenda Black and Pam Kyle, all of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Mickey, Jessica and Natasha; six stepchildren; and 16 stepgrandchildren.
