The Capitol Arts Alliance is featuring the artwork of Jennifer and Jesse Ray Sims in the classroom of the Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall through September.
Capitol Arts Alliance’s exhibit at the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce for August includes Kim and Marlee Jones, paintings, weavings and mixed media; Brody Vincent and Sarah Gutwirth, paintings, in the Houchens Gallery; Brenda Brown, paintings and mixed media, in the Mezzanine Gallery, through Aug. 22. Jennifer and Jesse Ray Sims’ artworks are at the Health & Wellness Center, Greenwood Mall through September.

Theater
Pine Knob Theatre will open “Daddy Took The T-Bird Away” Saturday. The show features music from the ’50s and ’60s, dancing and vintage cars. The show runs Saturdays through September at 8 p.m. Friday is the last day for “The Countdowns’ Rock ‘n’ Roll Show” to begin at 7 p.m. Tickets for both are $10 each. A ’50s-style diner is open before the shows. The Stinson Craft Shop is also open before the show and offers handcrafted items. Several events beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday will benefit the family of Austin Pellet, a 5-year-old boy awaiting a liver transplant. The Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual ice cream supper Aug. 13 at the Woodburn Ballpark. Activities will begin at 6 p.m. and include games, food, ice cream from Chaney’s Dairy Barn, music from Blue Highway Band, prize drawings (including a Gatlinburg getaway), cakewalk and an auction. Auction items include three club-level tickets and a parking pass for the Tennessee Titans’ home opener Sept. 18 against Baltimore. The Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra will kick off Beatlemadness5 week with a dinner/dance Beatles party, Here Comes the Sun, on Saturday at the Designer Show House in Fountain Trace Estates. Tickets for the party are $50 per person, which includes a tour of the Designer Show House, and may be purchased through the BGCO at 846-2426. Beatlemadness5 concerts will be Aug. 11 through 13. This will be the fifth year that local musicians play the music of the Fab Four.
Get Down in the Valley at Lost River Cave will be from 6 p.m. to midnight Aug. 13. The event, to benefit the cave, will feature Doc Livingston’s Swing Band and Skip Bond and the Fugitives. Food and beverages will be available for purchase and there will be free boat tours. Tickets are $15 in advance from the cave, Monticello Bank and Thompson’s Trophy Center and $20 at the door. Court Appointed Special Advocates will have a “Fire and Ice” indoor picnic Aug. 11 at First Christian Church from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature ice cream and spicy barbecue. Food will be available for $5 and there will be a silent auction and music from One Accord. Proceeds will benefit the CASA program.
Bowling Green League of Bicyclists, Greenways Commission and Operation P.R.I.D.E. are continuing the neighborhood bike rides the third Saturday of each month. The Giles County Society will have “Kentuckians Reading Kentuckians” at the Giles House near Knifley on Aug. 13. Writers may read for up to 12 minutes of their own work or that of another Kentucky writer. Non-writers also may read the works of others and writers are welcome to bring along copies of books to sell. Registration to read for the event, which is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., closes Monday. UAW Local 2164 will host Joe Hemphrey, Kentucky state service officer for Kentucky’s Veterans of Foreign Wars, every third Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the hall at 712 Plum Springs Loop. He will be available to discuss such things as vision care, speeding up the claims process and registering for care at the VA clinic.
Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will offer adult and youth tennis lessons at Kereiakes Park through July. The sessions are Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Youth lessons are offered 7:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., or 5:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Adult lessons are 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The cost of participating is $45 if the department provides a racket, or $40 if you bring your own.
