A proposed construction and demolition debris landfill in north Warren County meets all environmental standards set forth by the county and state, according to Lawrence White, general manager of Contractors Waste.

The companys application for a conditional use permit for the landfills will be considered at a meeting of the City-County Board of Adjustments tonight.

Weve addressed all the plans with the state and county for groundwater control, White said. Weve met all those requirements.

White also said additional traffic generated by the dump site at the corner of Harry Cherry and Willis roads would not be as significant as some fear.

There will maybe be 15 (trucks) a day or less, White said.

Residents have said the trucks would damage the road.

White said measures have been put in place to address damage from the trucks if it happens.

He said the landfill is necessary and would be more of an asset than a nuisance.

Area residents could benefit from utilizing the space for things they need to dispose of, like tearing down an old barn, he added.

White said the site is perfect for such a landfill.

It is not as karst as other areas in the county, he said. For this landfill we cant take any asbestos, roofing and sidings. All those things have to be signed off with a tracking document. They go into a sub-title D landfill, which is a contained landfill.

White, who is also vice president and general manager of Scott Waste, Contractors Wastes sister company, said the primary use of the landfill would be for internal company use, though area residents would have access to the site.

White said once the landfills are at capacity they would be closed. The natural landscape, he said, hides the landfill from public view.

A public hearing will be at 7 p.m. today at the City-County Board of Adjustments meeting in the Warren County Courthouse, 429 E. 10th Ave.
