The first thing I noticed about Harmony of Bowling Green was its decor.

The color scheme was deep blue, red, green and gold very old-world, a fellow diner noted. Various works of art adorned the walls, which themselves were half faux rock and half faux brick, and charming multicolored lamps shone green and yellow. It struck me as a nice, quiet family place in fact, a few families came and went as we lingered over lunch.

Our waiter sat us in the non-smoking section and got our drinks, then left us alone to mull over the menu. There were more than a dozen entree choices, some European and others American, as well as a handful of salad varieties and an entire page of pizza choices. Four of us chose the Seljacko Meso (only one of us was brave enough to attempt the pronunciation, and the rest of us just pointed), one had the spinach pizza and another ordered the musaka, but contented himself with goulash when the waiter informed him they were fresh out of musaka and it would take 30 minutes to prepare more.

The waiter brought us some delicious pita bread while we were waiting. It was warm and fluffy on the inside and crusty on the outside perfect. After about 20 minutes, we received our entrees, which were piping hot and looked delicious.

Seljacko Meso is described on the menu as pork meat, mushrooms, sour cream, parmesan cheese and spices. It was served with mashed potatoes that tasted like they were of the instant variety. They were quite buttery, though, so we overlooked the came-from-a-box taste.

After the first taste, those of us eating Seljacko Meso reached for the salt and pepper it was rather bland, but, as one of my co-workers noticed, the parmesan cheese had a nice tang to it. The pork was tender, the mushrooms were delicious and the juices left on my plate made a nice dipping sauce for the pita bread.

The goulash eater was very pleased with his meal, saying the beef had a spicy kick. The spinach pizza was also delicious, noted another co-worker, but it would have been nice to have some parmesan cheese on top. (There was a shaker of cheese on the table, but it was clumpy.)

Harmony of Bowling Green is located where You and Me used to be, our waiter said, and has been open for a little over three months. The decor and menu are similar, but with a few small changes, he added.

Our waiter was excellent. He was very attentive our drinks were continuously being topped off and patient with the tableful of Americans who couldnt pronounce what they wanted.

I, for one, plan to return to Harmony of Bowling Green that goulash looked so good, Im going to have to try it for myself.
