Once again, its time for the sun to steam up southcentral Kentuckians while area swimming pools and water attractions cool them down.

The Russell Sims Aquatic Center on Tomblinson Way in Bowling Green will open for the season Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

We have the two water slides and the spray playground, where we put in two or three new attractions at the end of last summer, said Karen Singleton, assistant director of the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation Department, which runs the Aquatic Center.

Last year, the center drew about 67,000 people. It opened six years ago.

Its been very successful and a wonderful aquatic facility for our citizens and guests from the surrounding counties, Singleton said.

Refreshments are sold and lifeguards with American Red Cross Lifeguard training are always on duty.

People of all ages, from babies all the way to senior citizens, enjoy the attraction, Singleton said.

The center will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every Monday through Saturday this summer. Sunday hours are from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The attraction will be closed May 23-25.

Admission is $8 for everyone 18 to 54, $5 for seniors 55 and older, $6 for college students with valid identification, $5 for children 6 to 17, $3 for children 2 to 5 and $1 for babies under 2.
