FRANKLIN The Rev. James Martin Cook, 83, of Franklin died May 4, 2005, at The Medical Center.

The Simpson County native was a retired farmer and Baptist minister. He was a member of Martins Chapel General Baptist Church since 1930, where he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and Sunday school superintendent. He pastored Clifton General Baptist Church in Scottsville, State Line General Baptist Church in Portland and was interim pastor for Mitchellville General Baptist Church, Mount Union, Martins Chapel and Old Liberty General Baptist churches. He was a son of the late Rev. Hobert Cook and Maud Alexander Cook.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Crafton Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Survivors include eight children, James Marion Cook of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Harold Jonathan Cook, Joel Duncan Cook, Timothy Jason Cook, Janice Groves, Jane Burnley and Beth Cook, all of Franklin, and Joanna Snoddy of Greenbrier, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
