Greenwood graduates make Transy deans list

Three Greenwood High School graduates and students at Transylvania University in Lexington have been named to the deans list for the 2004 fall term.

To be named to the deans list, a student must achieve at least a 3.5 grade-point average during the term.

Sophomore Allison Cassell, a business administration major, is the daughter of Shelia Cassell of Bowling Green. Junior Alicia Henson, an accounting major, is the daughter of Roy and Sheri Henson of Bowling Green. Senior Diana Rector, an accounting major, is the daughter of Duane Rector of Smiths Grove and Barbara Crouse of Bowling Green.

Warren students make Murrays list

Murray State University has named 10 Warren Countians to its fall deans list. Students must achieve a grade-point average ranging from 3.5 to a perfect 4.0 to be eligible for deans list status.

Those with a perfect 4.0 scholastic average are noted with an asterisk.

They are: Amanda Biller, Taylor Brown, Rebecca Garmon*, Christina Hall, Erin Hampton, Brian Jennings, Monica King*, Carolyn McAliley*, Brad Modlin* and Christopher Royse.

Students get honors from Vanderbilt

Several southcentral Kentucky residents have been named to the deans list or received honors at Vanderbilt University in Nashville for the fall 2004 semester.

Those who made the deans list are: Tiffany Renee Fuller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Randall C. Fuller of Bowling Green, Blair School of Music; Seth Collin Hulsey, son of Dr. and Mrs. Timothy K. Hulsey of Bowling Green, Arts and Science; Sarina K. Sahetya, daughter of Drs. Kalidas and Gul Sahetya of Bowling Green, Arts and Science; Julia Ann Jacobs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth E. Jacobs of Bowling Green, Arts and Science; Justin Scott Poling, son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Poling of Alvaton, Arts and Science; and Kalyn Forrest Bowra, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve F. Bowra of Alvaton, Peabody College.

Evan Todd Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Walker of Bowling Green, received honors from the School of Engineering.

Benjamin Neel Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Troy P. Murphy of Bowling Green, received high honors from the School of Engineering.

To qualify for the Arts and Science, Peabody College or Blair School of Music deans list, students must receive grades equivalent to a 3.5 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale for the semester.

In the School of Engineering, a minimum GPA of 3.25 earns deans list honors. Students with an average of 3.5 or better are recognized with high honors, and those with a perfect 4.0 average receive highest honors.

Rachel Smith earns Wake Forest honors

Rachel Ann Smith of Bowling Green, a freshman at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., has been named to the deans list for the fall 2004 semester.

To be named to the list, a student must receive a 3.0 or higher grade-point average.

Warren students earn Scholastic Art awards

Warren County high school and middle school students won eight gold awards and 15 silver awards at the Scholastic Arts Awards competition this year.

Nearly 700 works of art were entered in this years multi-county contest, and 125 of those received gold, silver or merit awards and earned the right to be displayed at Bowling Greens Capitol Arts Center.

Warren County students earning gold awards were: Jackie Osborne, Greenwood High School, in photography; Hang-Hee Yun, Greenwood, in both drawing and painting; Cheungyoon Kim, Greenwood, in drawing (two awards); Zac Shoemake, Moss Middle School, in mixed media; Allin Follin, Moss, in mixed media; and Danae Wesley, Moss, in drawing.

Warren Countys Silver Award winners were: Julie Hansbrough, Drakes Creek Middle School, in digital imagery; Tressa Tullis, Greenwood, in painting (three awards); Hang-Hee Yun, Greenwood, in both painting and mixed media; Amanda Rush, Greenwood, in ceramics and glass; Rachel McCubbins, Greenwood, in mixed media; Ansley McDaniel, Greenwood, in drawing; Shane Jones, Moss, in drawing; Haley Womack, Moss, in drawing; Katie Riley, Moss, in design/apparel; Justin Riggsbee, Moss, in drawing; Chase McKee, Moss, in drawing; and Bryan Blackwell, Moss, in printmaking.

Alvaton students win state poetry contest

Three students from Alvaton Elementary School third-grader Morgan Smith, fourth-grader Alicia Hope and fifth-grader Keegan Patton were state winners in the poetry contest sponsored by The Garden Clubs of Kentucky and Two Creeks Garden Club. The theme of the contest was How Does Your Garden Grow? The poems will be entered into regional competition.

Bowling Green native gets role in college play

Wilson Bridges, son of Richard and Sandy Bridges of Bowling Green, will play the part of Hal in Baldwin-Wallace Colleges production of Proof. Bridges is a sophomore musical theatre major at the Berea, Ohio, college.

Two students make USCs honor roll

Katherine Ann Lange and Rebecca Anne Wilson, both of Bowling Green, have been named to the presidents honor roll at the University of South Carolina. To be eligible for this honor, students must have a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for the semester. Both are automatically also named to the deans list, which requires a GPA of 3.5 or higher for the semester.

Area residents named to Samford deans list

Several local students have been named to the deans list at Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. They include Abby Pearson Callahan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Callahan of Bowling Green; Ashley Leighann Ford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Floyd of Bowling Green; and Robert Earl Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Miller of Glasgow.

Bowling Green native gets EKU deans award

David Curtis Baker of Bowling Green has earned a deans award at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. To be eligible for this honor, students must achieve deans list honors for three semesters, not necessarily consecutive. To achieve deans list honors, students must earn at least a 3.5 grade-point average while attempting 14 or more credit hours.

WKU forensic team members win awards

Western Kentucky University forensic team members traveled to San Diego, Indianapolis and Murray to take part in four tournaments on the weekend of Feb. 4-6. In San Diego, the WKU forensic team placed first in team sweepstakes in the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament.

At Murray, WKU team members received numerous individual awards in the Murray State/Hopkinsville Community College Swing.
