PizzAroma all about top-notch toppings
Thursday, February 03, 2005
If you like toppings to dictate a pizzas taste, then youll love PizzAroma on Iron Skillet Drive.
For years, PizzAroma has brought a distinctly different style of pizza and Italian treats to customers in western Kentucky towns, such as Hopkinsville and Owensboro. The pizza joint was a must-stop after Little League games, giving kids giant pizzas to gnaw on while the folks sipped cold beverages on tap and listened to an old jukebox.
Here in Bowling Green, many of those same delicious menu items appear on the menu, such as cheese-filled bosco sticks and whole strombolis.
For a quick and not-so-overfilling lunch, a co-worker and I visited PizzAroma to test the waters. Our server greeted us warmly and made a few suggestions for appetizers. Since we planned on eating relatively light, we went with some garlic cheese sticks and a pair of diet soft drinks. Opposite each booth seat were television sets mine showing MSNBC, my colleagues showing X Games.
In a matter of minutes, our hot, gooey garlic sticks came out with a complement of marinara sauce. While the sauce could have used a bit more flavor, the sticks themselves were delicious. Maybe next time well have the honey mustard sauce, but it really wasnt anything to complain about. Im a sucker for eyepopping flavor and spiciness.
For our main course, we went with a 10-inch everything pizza, minus the anchovies (one of the only pizza places still offering that item) and pineapple (till I die I refuse to eat fruit on my pizza).
PizzAromas pizza is unlike any commercial pizza out there. It is spicier and more like a bread plate for great toppings. They tend to go light on the sauce, which is a plus for some and a minus for others. Personally, I like sauce, but Im used to PizzAromas style, so I never mind.
The manager approached us midway through our meal and asked if we were happy with everything. We told him we were very pleased and thrilled that Bowling Green had his store.
PizzAroma offers a number of great sandwiches and strombolis, plus salads and other appetizers. The pizzas are a bit pricier than those of larger commercial vendors, but PizzAromas distinct flavor is worth the extra cost. There is ample parking and the establishment is clean and relatively new. Give PizzAroma a try next time you want a bite after a movie or local ballgame, or just an excuse to get out on the town for something different.
