Nearly two years to the day after the city shut down Lowes Feed and Grain, Don Lowe is reopening the business.
Ive always planned to reopen, Lowe said.
It just took awhile to get things back on track.
He was shut down because of an electrical safety hazard caused when water leaked through a hole in the roof into an electrical service box.
It was February this year before Lowes got the final inspection approval after making repairs of a little more than $25,000. But then he had to wait for harvest season.
He started taking grain about a month ago and will eventually fill grain elevators with about 450,000 bushels of corn, soybeans and wheat. Some of the grain will be ground on site into quality livestock feed. The remainder will be shipped off.
In addition to making his own feed, Lowe said he will stock a quality mix of other livestock feeds and pet products.
We will have a full line of farm supplies, he said.
Lowe was expecting a delivery today of horse tack.
The facility will hire four new employees and will operate weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. This Saturdays hours will be extended until 3 p.m. and Mondays will be until 5 p.m. to celebrate the grand reopening. There will be special prices on feed Saturday and Monday.
Lowes will continue to operate at the Clay Street facility where it has been for 57 years. Daily News ·813 College St. ·PO Box 90012 ·Bowling Green, KY ·42102 ·270-781-1700
