Bradford D. Mutchler, 90, former principal at Paducah Tilghman High School, died July 30, 2004, at his home in Windermere, Fla., after a long illness.

He was born March 7, 1914, in Lexington but shortly thereafter moved to Bowling Green, where he graduated from high school and Western Kentucky University. While at Western, he played and starred on the basketball and baseball teams. He was also an All American Basketball player at Western. In 1999, he was selected for the Western Kentucky University Hall of Fame. He also received a masters degree in education from George Peabody College in Nashville in 1941. Mr. Mutchler began a long and distinguished career in teaching and educational administration at Hartford, Franklin, Scottsville and Bowling Green. He was also a successful basketball coach at these schools. In September 1957, he became principal of Paducah Tilghman High School, until his resignation in 1969. After leaving Tilghman, Mr. Mutchler was employed at Western Kentucky University in charge of university-school relations until his retirement. He then moved to Florida, where he remained until his death. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Windermere. He was a son of the late Dr. Fred Mutchler and Florence Merritt Mutchler of Bowling Green. He was preceded in death Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimers Foundation in Bowling Green.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle E. Johnnie Mutchler; a daughter, Marilyn Elliott of Mayfield; two sons, John M. Mutchler of Estes Park, Colo., and Dr. Bradford Mutchler of Paducah; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Yonts of Maryland; a stepson, Lee Elias of Bowling Green; a sister, Florence Griffin of Louisville; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  Daily News ·813 College St. ·PO Box 90012 ·Bowling Green, KY ·42102 ·270-781-1700
