Churches, schools and other not-for-profit organizations can apply for free pianos formerly belonging to Western Kentucky Universitys Music Department. The pianos were acquired by Shuffs Music, a Franklin, Tenn., company, through a bid to replace the pianos. They are being rebuilt by Devlin Bignault, a Bowling Green piano guild technician. Charitable organizations interested in acquiring a piano should submit applications to Shuffs Music, 118 Third Ave. N., Franklin TN 37064 or via e-mail to shuffs@shuffsmusic.com. Priority will be given to earlier applications, and the deadline for applications to be received is May 10.In addition to the free pianos, the company will also conduct a sale of other surplus pianos from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 15 on the first floor of the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center. The company will also have representatives on hand May 13 and 14 by appointment to show the pianos. Shuffs Music owner Ron Shuff said all sales associates will be musicians or piano technicians and will help buyers understand their purchases. A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to Westerns music program for future piano maintenance and repairs.
