HOPKINSVILLE Dr. Russell King Heltsley, 71, of Hopkinsville died at 3:39 p.m. Dec. 13, 2004, at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green.
The Hopkinsville native was an optometrist and a community leader. He had been a practicing optometrist in Hopkinsville for more than 40 years and operated Heltsley Eye Care. He was an Army veteran, serving with the rank of first lieutenant, and was a 1957 graduate of Indiana University. He was a founder and member of the local Crime Stoppers, a member of the Lions Club and served on the board of directors for the Christian County Health Department. He was a former president and Optometrist of the Year in 1975 of the Kentucky Optometric Association. He was a son of the late King Heltsley and Nola Withers Heltsley.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, where he was a member, with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hughart and Beard Funeral Home.
