One of Greenwood Malls soon-to-be tenants might keep Bowling Green shoppers from going to Nashville. Old Navy will be opening in the coming months, as will a Yankee Candle store. Meanwhile, construction continues on Chuck E. Cheeses, and discussions are under way with a movie theater to fill the space recently vacated by Carmike Cinemas Greenwood 6. The former location of the Tennessee Coffee Mill remains vacant, according to Shelli Farris, Greenwood Mall marketing manager. Some Bowling Green residents already shop regularly at Old Navy in Nashville, and Azi Saifizadeh, a mother of two young daughters, is exited to hear its coming. Instead of having to drive to Rivergate Mall or Opry Mills, she can just go Greenwood, Saifizadeh said. She shops at Old Navy because she likes the stores great deals, and has purchased some spring dresses there for her 4- and 8-year-old daughters. Items at the store include semi-dress clothing, T-shirts, jeans and casuals. I love their colors, Saif-izadeh said. The popularity of Old Navy, a Gap subsidiary, has grown since the first three stores opened in 1994 in Northern California. Old Navy has been one of our most requested stores over the past few years, and we are very excited that we are able to add them to our tenant mix for our customers, Farris said. General Growth Properties Inc. said Monday that Old Navy would locate in a 15,000-square-foot store on the Scottsville Road side of the mall, just to the north of LifeWay Christian Store near the food court entrance. The store, set to open this fall, will find its home in an area of the mall that has yet to see a tenant since a 2001 mall expansion. As you walk up, youd see a construction fence around a parking area, Farris said. Also coming to the mall is Yankee Candle Company. The store will be located near the center court at the mall, where shoppers can smell the companys long-burning scented candles and see its candle holders. The Massachusetts-based company that sells in 42 states saw significant sales growth in the 2002. Both sales and employment grew by roughly 17 percent, with sales totaling about $444 million, according to financial information provider Hoovers. Both Yankee Candle and coming kid-themed pizza restaurant Chuck E. Cheeses are slated to open in May, Farris said. The Chuck E. Cheeses comes as the location known for childrens parties is adding 350 stores across the country, according to its Web site. Also moving ahead at the mall is the search for a movie theater to fill the space vacated after the closure of Greenwood 6 late last month. Were working with another theater company to fill the space, Farris said. Additionally, the mall is looking for another tenant to fill the space of the Tennessee Coffee Mill, which closed its doors just after the holidays. We have quite a few things going, Farris said. There is lots going on in 04, and we cant wait for it all to open up.
