Waller B. AlexanderWaller Beck Alexander, 79, of Bowling Green died at 7 p.m. March 4, 2003, at his home. The Franklin, Tenn., native was a retired farmer, World War II Army veteran, a Purple Heart recipient and a member, deacon and Sunday school superintendent of Oakland Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Edgar Alexander and Harriet Ann Canden Alexander. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green chapel, with burial in Smiths Grove Cemetery. The Barren County native was a fuel attendant at the BP Travel Center in Smiths Grove. He was a son of the late Lee Lawrence Emmitt and Clara Maude Clark Emmitt of Smiths Grove, who survives. The Logan County native was a maintenance engineer for Mercantile Centre in Texas. He was the son of the late William Morton Fortner and the late Stella Inez Marrs Fortner. The Bowling Green native was retired Swifty Oil Co. employee, a Korean War Army veteran, a former member of the Bowling Green-Warren County Jaycees and the Hilltopper Athletic Association, and attended The Presbyterian Church, Western Kentucky University and Bowling Green Business College. He was a son of the late Maburn Clyde Hatcher and Tempye Clay Sharer Hatcher. He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Earl Hatcher. The Clinton, Ark., native was a retired staff sergeant in the Army, a World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War veteran, and a non-denominational minister. He was a son of the late Willie Jeffries and Myrtle Kidd Jeffries. The Glasgow native was a stocker for Houchens, a farmer and a member of Oak Grove Methodist Church. He was a son of the late V.J. Ranger Payne and Mae Burgoyne Payne of Smiths Grove, who survives. The Muhlenberg County native was retired maintenance superintendent for Arch Minerals Coal Co., Ayrgem Mine; a member and trustee of Nelson Creek Missionary Baptist Church; attended Martwick Community School, a graduate of Rockport High School, a graduate of Bowling Green Trade School; a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, local union 1701, Owensboro; a member of United Mine Workers of America local union 1605 and Central Masonic Lodge No. 643, was a 32-degree mason and an Army veteran. He was the son of the late Preston and Doy Wright Sharp. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Tucker Funeral Home with burial in Nelson Creek Cemetery. He was a son of the late Earl Shields and Mamie Tabor Shields and husband of the late Frances Williams Shields. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carline Shields. He was a son of the late Jefferson Davis and Pearl Ann Palmer Wallace. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at Hillvue Heights Church, where he was a member, with burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
