GLASGOW From the time Barren County and Allen County-Scottsville girls basketball teams tipped off, it appeared clear that it was going to be the Trojanettes night. That is, at least, until the fourth quarter. Behind a 17-2 run, the Lady Patriots chopped a 22-point lead to seven before falling just short. Barren County weathered the storm, winning 64-51 in round one of the Girls District 15 Tournament. We accomplished our goal, which was to win and move on. Thats what you want to do right now, Barren County coach John Butler said. I thought for the most part we did enough right things to win. The Trojanettes (21-5) will now face Edmonson County on Friday night for the district championship. Allen County-Scottsville (3-20) got as close as seven points, but with less than a minute and a half to play Barren Countys offense awoke, scoring 11 of the games final 14 points. They never quit. They just kept working really hard, Allen County coach Angel Bonds said. I cant say enough about these kids. When you only win three games most teams fall apart. This team didnt. We just kept digging. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, Barren County controlled the scoreboard the entire game, leading by as much as 23 points in the second half. Senior Ashley Perkins led the Trojanette charge, connecting on three third quarter 3-point baskets. Perkins finished the game five of 12 from behind the arc, scoring a game-high 17 points. I thought her and Piper Lindsey had great games. Both of those kids stepped up and played well, Butler said. Lindsey finished with 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds. Defensively, Barren County kept the Lady Patriot offense out of rhythm for the first three quarters, forcing 13 turnovers. The Lady Patriots were led by junior guard Ashley Stinson, who scored 15 points. It was probably the best game of her career. She just has a lot of heart. She keeps working every day to get better and she just gave it all she had, Bonds said. Barren County 14 17 21 12 – 64Allen County 10 10 10 21 – 51Barren County (64) Barlow 16, Spillman 3, A. Having won five of their last seven regular-season games, the Lady Wildcats used their better-late-than-never mentality to down Glasgow. Edmonson County (14-11) scored 26 fourth quarter points, overcoming a five-point, third-quarter deficit to down the host Lady Scotties. Going into the game we knew we had to keep it close, playing a higher seed on their home court, Edmonson County coach Kevin Jackson said. We had good shots early in the game, they just were not falling. I thought if we kept encouraging them to keep shooting they would start to fall and finally in the fourth quarter they did. After a stagnant offensive effort for most of the game, the Lady Wildcats scored more points in the fourth quarter than in the three previous quarters combined. Edmonson County senior guard Holly Kugler got the ball rolling with two quick 3-pointers, sparking a 17-2 run that overwhelmed the Lady Scotties, who were never able to recover. I thought our kids played excellent defense tonight, except for about a two-minute stretch there in the fourth quarter, Glasgow coach Mike Harris said. Glasgow (12-14) senior Ashley Freeman momentarily halted the run, hitting a 3-pointer with 4:51 remaining in the game. The basket was the Lady Scotties first field goal of the quarter, cutting Edmonson Countys lead to 35-31.We had a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. All we needed to do was make a few baskets and I think we could have put the game away, Harris said. Kugler finished with a game-high 17 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter.
