Yahagi Sangyo Co. Ltd. intends to open a 32,000-square-foot facility in Edmonson County, according to Gov. Paul Patton, Kentucky Economic Development Secretary Gene Strong and company officials. The project represents a $2 million investment and will employ 10 to 15 people. The Japanese company, which manufactures rubber and plastic injection molding parts, expects to move in by March and begin operations by June in the facility in the countys industrial park on U.S. 31-W. The company considered nine other locations in Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee before settling on Edmonson County, Patton said in a statement. The investment and new jobs will have a positive ripple effect on the economy and unemployment in Edmonson County. The September unemployment rate the most recent available stood at 4.5 percent, according to Carter Parker, workforce development manager for the Bowling Green Field Office of the Department for Employment Services. The companys management said they believe the key to their successful operation in the United States lies with the availability of quality personnel, and such resources are plentiful in Edmonson County and its surrounding area. They were impressed with the professional expertise displayed during the site location process.Jerry Patton, the chairman of the Industrial Authority in Edmonson County, declined to comment on the announcement. The announcement of the companys intentions comes after the county invested between $350,000 and $700,000 in the building. This is the second building constructed on speculation by Edmonson County. The other, located in the same industrial park, is occupied by Jasco, a joint effort between Sumitomo and the James Group, and has 12 employees. The Associated Press contributed to this report.
