The Bank of Edmonson County purchased land at the intersection of Brenner Street and U.S. 31-W in Warren County as a move toward opening its first branch office since being chartered in 1925.Were very excited, said Jeane Patton, president of the Bank of Edmonson County. Its adjacent to the southern edge of Edmonson County and its an opportunity to make it more convenient for new customers to do business with us. The move is not yet official, though Patton anticipates approval of the pending application with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. She expects to hear from the FDIC by the end of the year. The new branch office would cover more than 4,000 square feet, and will probably employ six people when it opens, according to Patton. The bank could raise the number of staff to 12 if business improves. The Bank of Edmonson County is a state-chartered bank. A change a few years ago in banking laws allowed state-chartered banks to cross county lines and open branches, Patton said. In 1971 the bank moved from its original location to its present headquarters on the south side of Brownsvilles square. It expanded the headquarters in 1989 and 2001.
