A new Wal-Mart Supercenter for Glasgow cleared the first hurdle this week in development. The Joint City-County Planning Commission in Barren County gave approval to a request to rezone 35.3 acres along the new bypass and Ky. 90. The request now goes to the Glasgow City Council for final approval, said Scott Young, director of the commission. The new store will be 203,000 square feet and contain general retail, grocery, tire and lube, a pharmacy drive-through, garden center and a fuel center. The property will also have two out lots to be developed later, said Kim Henry Begg, director of planning for SITE, Inc., the company that applied for the rezoning.Construction should start some time after the first of the year, Begg said.Wal-Mart purchased the land from the Glasgow/Barren County Industrial Development and Economic Authority and Immanuel Baptist Church.
