John Carlisle J.C. Kirby, 76, of Bowling Green died at 5:41 a.m. June 23, 2002, at The Medical Center.The Warren County native was founder of J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Chapels, a coroner, a World War II Army Air Corps veteran, helped create the Warren County School Retardation Center, served on the Kentucky State Mental Retardation Board, was awarded the Colonel Aide De Camp Commandants Award, authored two books, I Am Two From Kentucky, and Retrospect, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, receiving the associations Outstanding Member award two consecutive years, Kentucky Funeral Directors Burial Association, National Funeral Directors Association, board of directors for the Planters Insurance Company and Living Hope Baptist Church. He was a son of the late Carlisle W. Kirby and Blooma Dell Kirby.Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Lovers Lane chapel, with burial in Bowling Green Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the local Diabetes Association or Kosair Crippled Childrens Hospital in Louisville.Survivors include his wife, Lavern Gentry Kirby; four sons, John Steve Kirby of Frankfort, Mark C. Kirby of Russellville and Kevin R. Kirby and Tim D. Kirby, both of Bowling Green; two daughters, Jo Carla Brumley of Austin, Texas, and Jana M. Forshee Kirby of Bowling Green; a brother, Robert R. Kirby of Bowling Green; three sisters, Nell Peperis, Mary Virgina Payne and Irene Jones, all of Bowling Green; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
