ITA opponents for managed growth

I have read many letters about the transpark from misinformed persons, but the April 24 letter from Greg Jent calls for a response. First, opponents of the transpark are not a small group, but a very large one, as Jent would know if he attended any of our informational meetings. As an opponent, I know we are for growth, education, employment, training and good wages, and we welcome new industry. However, growth must be managed for the best interest of the citizens of Warren and surrounding counties. Growth should also have concern for peoples health, education, the future use of our land and water supplies and not drain the taxpayers with taxes or fees attached to every aspect of our livelihood.Jent expressed concern for our children moving elsewhere for jobs. What about the ones who want to stay in Warren County and farm? Yes, farming is an occupation, and yes, farmers do have employees, earn income, pay taxes and feed the world. The Web site www.nass.usda.gov/ky/cost/cashpp.pdf shows that from Jan. 1 through Aug. 2001, Kentucky farms earned $1,270,606 from crops and $2,334,871 from livestock for a total of $3,605,477. District 3, which includes Warren and surrounding counties, earned $248,545 from crops and $408,620 from livestock in only eight months. This is 18.23 percent of Kentuckys farm income. I wonder about those people who think farm land and farmers are not needed. Where do you think the food you eat comes from? Certainly not from 4,000 acres of paved transpark. Jent may have a science degree, but evidently he has never taken courses in economics, agriculture or compassion for his neighbors. What price are we willing to make the next generation pay for our mistakes? Please vote on May 28.June H.
