Western Kentucky mens soccer coach David Holmes has received National Letters of Intent from two players who will join his squad for the 2002 season. Jason Dugas, a forward from Southlake, Texas, joins the Hilltoppers from Carrol High School, where he compiled 33 goals and 11 assists in his first three years of prep soccer. He was a first-team all-district selection in 2001, helping CHS to the Class 4A state championship last spring. Jason is one of the top forwards coming out of the soccer-rich North Texas area, Holmes said. He is fast, creative and a proven goal scorer at both the high school and club level. He also played for the Dallas Comets Soccer Club team. Jason was a difference maker for our Dallas Comets Soccer Club team, club coach Dave Hudgell said of his star striker. He scored the goals that helped us win important games. Dugas chose Western over Southern Methodist, Hartwick and other NCAA Division I schools. Holmes also is looking to add depth to his defense with the addition of Brian Kline from Carbondale (Ill.) Community High School. Kline, a four-year starter at CCHS, is a four-time all-conference selection and was all-state and conference most valuable player in 2001. He finished his prep career with 43 goals and a school-record 44 assists. He also is the schools season assist leader with 13 in each of his junior and senior seasons. … He is a solid defender who can also play in the midfield, Holmes said. He is an intelligent player with good positional sense. Brian is a strong ball winner and good passer of the ball. … Western, which lost 11 seniors to graduation this past year, finished the 2001 season with a 7-10 record after advancing to the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the fourth consecutive year.
