Rodeo riding back into Bowling Green

The Lone Star World Championship Rodeo is riding back into Bowling Green. The rodeo will be at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Western Kentucky Universitys L.D. Brown Agricultural Exposition Center. The theme for the event is the Flags and Feathers Tour, said Vanessa Madison, who handles promotions for the rodeo. We have a different theme every year. This year were paying tribute to America and American Indians, said Madison, who said she feels a special tie to the event because she is half Indian. We have cowboys, so you cant forget the Indians. Events at the rodeo will include crowd favorites: bareback bronc riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, cowgirls barrel racing, Brahma bull riding, pony rides, an Easter egg hunt-like gold rush for children ages 10 and under and mutton busting for children who weigh less than 50 pounds. New attractions will include appearances by rodeo clown Sid McFarland, the speciality of the year The Thorntons and Miss Mommas Calf Scramble, a competition in which calves are turned loose in the area and mothers try to get flags off their tails. Madison said she believes the rodeo remains so popular because its targeted toward the family. You dont have to worry about your kids seeing something you dont want them to see, she said. We have thrilling events for the adults like bull riding and things like pony rides for the kids. Theres something for the whole family. Tickets for the Lone Star World Championship Rodeo are $16 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under and can be purchased at Diddle Arena box office, C&R Western Store in Greenwood Mall, Leachman Truck Corral and Pollys Bridal in Russellville. Tickets are almost sold out for Friday and Saturday performances. For more information, call 843-3542.
