The Big Red Radio Network announced Wednesday that the flagship station for Western Kentucky mens basketball would be WKLX-FM 100.7 in Brownsville. Before the football season began, it was announced that mens basketball games would be on WPTQ-FM 103.7 in Cave City. After football season began, many WKU fans were unhappy because of WPTQs spotty reception throughout Warren County.WKLX recently underwent an image change, part of which includes the new nickname Star 100.7.For several weeks we have been in the process of freshening up the image of WKLX, said BRRN executive producer Derron Steenbergen said in a statement. This has been one of our most successful stations, and our partnership with Hilltopper athletics has been an important part of that success. I am excited about the new Star 100.7 and pleased to announce WKLX-FM as the flagship station for Western Kentucky Hilltopper basketball.Calls made to Steenbergen for further comment on the situation were not immediately returned. WKU Athletics Director Wood Selig was out of town and unavailable for comment.Western football games will still be broadcast on WPTQ and Lady Topper basketball games will be on WOVO-FM 105.3 out of Glasgow. Last year, womens basketball games were aired on WPTQ.The BRRN also announced the addition of WANY (106.3-FM/1390-AM) in Albany, bringing the total number of stations to 18.
