Modlin receives Media AwardThe Kentucky Psychiatric Association has given its 2002 Barry Bingham Memorial Media Award to Dan Modlin, news director at the Public Radio Service of Western Kentucky University.The awards program recognizes excellent coverage of mental illness issues. This is the second straight year that Modlin has won the award.The award-winning entry was a two-part series titled A Question For The Courts. The program, which Modlin produced and anchored, examined the way the courts deal with defendants who are tested for mental illness.Interview guests included Warren County Commonwealths Attorney Steve Wilson, Warren County Jailer Jackie Strode, postpartum depression specialist Dr. Katherine Wisener, licensed psychological associate Madeline Chandler and Lifeskills Medical Director Dr. Randall Draper. The series aired June 24 and 25.The Barry Bingham Award is named for the late publisher and board chairman of the Louisville Courier-Journal who was longtime advocate for competent care for the mentally ill. The award was presented recently at luncheon in Louisville.Westerns Public Radio broadcasts on WKYU-FM Bowling Green; WDCL-FM Somerset; WKPB-FM Henderson/Owensboro; and WKUE-FM Elizabethtown.
