FLORENCE, Ala. Dr. Bettie Jo Smith-Cardin of Florence, formerly of Bowling Green, Ky., died Aug. 29, 2001, in Florence.The Fort Thomas, Ky., native was a graduate of Highlands High School in Fort Thomas and Auburn University, where she received a doctor of veterinary medicine degree; attended Western Kentucky University and practiced veterinary medicine and surgery at Ellis Memorial Animal Hospital in Florence. She was a daughter of the late Clara Mae Smith and William T. Smith.Funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Greenview Memorial Chapel with graveside service at 10 a.m. EDT Saturday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Thomas.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Northwest Alabama Cancer Center in Florence or Hospice of the Shoals, 115 Fairground Road, Florence, Ala., 35630.Survivors include her husband, Dr. David E. Cardin of Richmond, Va.; a daughter, Rebecca Shannon Cardin of Birmingham; a son, William Summerhill Cardin of Florence; a brother, Powell Thomas Smith of Leland, Mich.; and a grandson.
