Stability hasnt been a word associated with the Logan County High School football team, but head coach Lee Proctor is looking to change that. When Proctor was named interim coach just weeks before the season began last August, he became the third head coach for the Cougars in three years. The instability showed on the field as Logan County finished 1-9. Despite the record, the school board made Proctor the permanent head coach in December, allowing a program that finished 9-3 just two seasons prior the chance to restabilize. The players appreciate the stability. Its definitely easier this year, senior running back Terry Clayton said. All the coaches have respect amongst each other this year and that helps a lot. Proctor agreed that knowing the job was his made for a very productive offseason. Theres a lot more organization at this point than there was last year, Proctor said. We were able to get kids in the weight room. We started planning what we were gonna do with our offense and defense this season. Those plans included installing the air raid offense, used by former University of Kentucky head coach Hal Mumme at UK and Valdosta State. Proctor talked to people who run the offense, gaining insight into the secrets of making it work. He sent junior starting quarterback Adam Clark to Valdosta States football camp this summer and showed him film to help familiarize Clark with the system. Defensively, Proctor has installed an aggressive 50-type defense that is expected to provide constant pressure on opposing offenses. The aggressive offensive and defensive styles are just part of an overall mentality that Proctor believes only will improve his teams performance on the field. Our aggressiveness started in the weight room, Proctor said. Its transferred from the weight room out here. I think we have kids ready to step it up. And while Proctor knows that the growing pains of a program looking to rebuild still are lingering, hes confident the team is on the verge of great things. We all feel a whole lot more comfortable, Proctor said. Our coaches are set on what they are doing. Our kids know that this bunch of coaches are here. We are going to battle with them. Its a much better situation all around.
